Beiersdorf debuts renewable plastic at Nivea

THE WHAT? Beiersdorf has announced that the fruits of its partnership with SABIC will hit shelves later this year, with skin care brand Nivea’s Naturally Good range sporting an innovative, environmentally friendly packaging from June.

THE DETAILS Certified renewable polypropylene will replace fossil-based virgin plastic, contributing to Beiersdorf’s target to use 50 percent less fossil-based plastic by 2025 and significantly reducing packaging-based C02 emissions.

From the idea to the implementation, it took just nine months. “We need these strong partnerships along the value chain and are very pleased that we were able to establish such a good cooperation with our suppliers Berry Global and SABIC,” said Julia Wiedemann, Global Category Manager Sustainable Packaging in Procurement at Beiersdorf.

THE WHY? Jean-François Pascal, Vice President Corporate Sustainability at Beiersdorf commented, “We are proud to be a pioneer among our industry in the field of renewable plastic packaging. The ambitious targets we have set ourselves with our CARE BEYOND SKIN Sustainability Agenda are being put into practice with a great deal of commitment and hard work.”
