THE WHAT? Church & Dwight has agreed to pay out US$2.5 million to settle a class action suit that alleges that the personal care manufacturer was aware that its Batiste dry shampoo products were contaminated with benzene.
THE DETAILS The hair care brand was accused of failing to warn consumers that the carcinogen could be present in its dry shampoo products.
Consumers who purchased relevant products before May 30, 2023 could be eligible to claim US$10 in compensation.
THE WHY? By settling, Church & Dwight avoids the cost and uncertainty of a day in court and does not have to admit wrongdoing.
