P&G apologises for ‘sexist’ WeChat ad

THE WHAT? Procter & Gamble has backtracked on a campaign it ran on Chinese social media platform WeChat that claimed that women’s feet smell worse than men’s, according to a report published by the South China Morning Post.

THE DETAILS The US FMCG manufacturer removed the ad following backlash, with several posting that P&G’s claim had no scientific basis.

THE WHY? The company said in a statement, per SCMP, “We sincerely apologise for the advertisement’s inappropriate content, which disrespected women. P&G always advocates equal, tolerant and respectful values. We have deleted this advertisement and started overhauling this WeChat account.”
