THE WHAT? BASF has announced its plans to open a new citral plant in China and menthol and linalool downstream plants in Germany. The new facilities are slated to come on stream from 2026 onwards.

THE DETAILS Both new plants will be integrated into the Verbund sites in China and Germany enabling BASF to create synergies and optimise resources, reducing energy consumption and emissions.

THE WHY? The investment is driven by a growing demand from the global flavor and fragrance market and BASF’s commitment to sustainability, the ingredients supplier said in a statement. Thilo Bischoff, Senior Vice President, BASF Aroma Ingredients, reveals, ““The expansion of our global production network benefits our customers in the flavor and fragrance industry by further strengthening supply security. Investing in Zhanjiang is also a significant step towards sustainable production and addressing our customers’ demands for products with a lower carbon footprint.”
