Bondi Sands to face class action over greenwashing allegations

THE WHAT? Australia’s Bondi Sands is set to face class action lawsuit alleging that its sunscreens are not environmentally friendly, according to a report published by The Sydney Morning Herald.

THE DETAILS The sun care brand is charged with falsely marketing its products to US consumers as reef-safe despite the fact that they contain several ingredients that could potentially endanger marine life, including avobenzone, homosalate. octisalate and octocrylene.

THE WHY? The suit is one of several bought by the same plaintiff challenging sun care manufacturer’s ocean-friendly claims. The company said in a statement, per The Sydney Morning Herald, “Our sunscreen products are made in Australia and are compliant with TGA regulations, which are the strongest SPF guidelines in the world, and are compliant with strict EU and FDA laws.”
