Ugandan beauty brands prepare for DRC sales boost after EAC membership confirmed

THE WHAT? Ugandan beauty brands are gearing up for increased sales to the Democratic Republic of Congo after the country joined the East African Community (EAC), according to a report published by The East African.

THE DETAILS Uganda’s proximity to the DRC and its prior trading relationship makes it well placed to benefit from the new opportunities afforded by EAC membership. Kampala’s exports to F+DRC totalled US$74.3 million in January, 2022. Three road projects in the works, combined with the removal of tariffs between the two nations looks set to increase trade still more.

THE WHY? Cosmetics are among Uganda’s top exports to the DRC and, with trade and movement barriers between the two countries removed, business should be brisk going forward.
