THE WHAT? Rikkie Valerie Kolle has become the first trans woman to win the Miss Netherlands title, according to a report published by the New York Times.

THE DETAILS Kolle will represent her country at the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador later this year, where she will be the second openly trans woman to compete in the global competition.

THE WHY? Monica van Ee, a Member of the Jury and National Director for the Miss Netherlands contest, told the New York Times, “We’re really looking for the most beautiful woman in the Netherlands… Throughout the whole process, she was the most beautiful woman.”
