Chanel to open Hong Kong store as Chinese tourists return

THE WHAT? Chanel has signed a three-year lease for a two-storey retail location in Hong Kong, according to a report published by Lifestyle Asia, in a deal rumored to be worth HK$3 million a month.

THE DETAILS The French luxury brand plans to open a 19,000 square foot store dedicated to its beauty offer in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay shopping district – although the official opening date is yet to be announced.

THE WHY? Lifestyle Asia reports that Chinese tourists have started to return to Hong Kong, with visitor numbers hitting three million in April versus 1 million in January, 2023. Chanel is presumably hoping to capture a share of their wallets.
